The tap tempo tool and the magic step are free. Your video and music stay on your device. Cue sheet Spring freestyle USDF First Level Freestyle, up to 5:00 | No. | Music | Movement | Tempo | Stretch | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 1 | 0:00 | 10 m circle right in working trot, trot | 146 bpm | 3.9 percent slower | | 2 | 0:46 | Leg-yield left in working trot, trot | 146 bpm | 3.9 percent slower | | 3 | 1:32 | Medium walk (20 m continuous), walk | 112 bpm | 3.7 percent faster | | 4 | 2:24 | 15 m circle right in working canter, canter | 100 bpm | 4.2 percent faster | | 5 | 3:20 | Lengthen stride in canter on a straight line, canter | 100 bpm | 4.2 percent faster | Within the limit: 4:10.0 ridden, the First Level Freestyle allows up to 5:00. A sample: a made up First Level ride, fitted and timed by the builder you use below. ### Start with your ride 1. Load your ride videoA video of your own test, filmed from C if you can. MP4, MOV or WebM up to 2 GB. It plays here and never leaves this device. 2. Add musicTracks you own: MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC, as your browser reads them. Kurtempo supplies no music. New to this? The [magic step](https://kurtempo.com/magic/) fits one song to your trot in a minute, with nothing to set up. ### How a freestyle comes together 1. **Tap the tempo.** Play your ride and tap each footfall the convention asks for: every front foot in walk and trot, the leading leg once a stride in canter. The median of your taps is the tempo. 2. **Mark the segments.** Where each gait starts and ends on the video, named from your level's movement list. 3. **Fit the music.** Each section is stretched to its gait's tempo, 8 percent or less ideally, never 15 percent or more without your say so, crossfaded and checked against the level's time limit. Every rule is on [how the tempo and the stretch work](https://kurtempo.com/how-it-works/). The time limits and compulsory movements, with their sources, are on the [levels page](https://kurtempo.com/levels/). Want to hear it first? Try the [magic step](https://kurtempo.com/magic/) with one song and your trot. Planning on paper too? Blank [arena diagrams, a cue sheet and a gait tempo log](https://kurtempo.com/printables/) are free to print. --- # Fit one song to your horse's trot, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/magic/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > Load your ride video and one song, tap your horse's trot, and hear the song stretched to that tempo in sync with the video. No sign up. ## Hear one song fitted to your horse's trot Load a video of your ride and a song you own, tap along to the trot, and the song is stretched to your horse's tempo without its pitch changing, then played in time with the video. It takes about a minute, and nothing leaves your device. 1. 1. Load your ride videoAny stretch of trot will do. It plays here and never leaves this device. 2. 2. Choose one songA track you own, as MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC. ### What happens 1. **Your taps become a tempo.** Tap each time a front foot lands, at least 8 times. The median gap between taps gives the beats per minute. 2. **The song is stretched.** Faster or slower to match, by a time stretch that keeps the pitch, so a singer does not turn into a chipmunk. 3. **It plays in sync.** The music is scheduled on the audio clock and the video is held to it. Nothing on this page is saved. The whole freestyle, every gait, crossfades, the time check and the exports, is in the [builder](https://kurtempo.com/); the rules are on [how the tempo and the stretch work](https://kurtempo.com/how-it-works/). --- # How the tempo, stretch and time check work, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/how-it-works/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > The tap convention for each gait, how tempo and stability are read, the stretch limits, crossfades, normalising and the freestyle time check. ## How the tempo, the stretch and the time check work You tap each footfall on your own video; the median gap between taps is the tempo. Each section of music is time stretched to that tempo without changing pitch, warned past 8 percent and refused at 15 percent unless you give a reason. The ridden time is then checked against your level. Last updated 19 October 2026. ### The tap convention for each gait Tap the same footfall every time, so the tempo means the same thing as the beat you will ride to. | Gait | Footfalls a stride | You tap | Usual tapped tempo | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Walk | 4 | Tap each time a front foot lands: 2 taps a stride, left front, right front. | 90 to 135 bpm | | Trot | 2 | Tap each time a front foot lands: 2 taps a stride. | 120 to 175 bpm | | Canter | 3 | Tap once a stride, as the leading front foot lands. | 80 to 120 bpm | The usual range is a rough guide for a horse of average size. A tempo outside it is kept exactly as tapped; the page only asks you to check you tapped as the convention says. Ponies are often quicker, big moving horses slower. ### The rules, in the order they run #### 1. Tempo from taps - Taps come in runs. A run ends when the video pauses or jumps, or 2 seconds pass with no tap; a gap between runs is never measured as a beat. - At least 8 taps for a gait give a tempo. - The tempo is 60,000 divided by the median gap between taps, in milliseconds, to a tenth of a beat per minute. - A gap more than 25 percent from the median is an outlier: it is named on screen and left out of the stability figure. - Stability is the spread of the kept gaps (standard deviation over mean): 4 percent or less is steady, 8 percent or less fair, more than 8 unsteady, and you are asked to tap again. - Fewer than 6 kept gaps, or fewer than 60 percent of them kept, is too uneven to measure. - A tempo you type, from 30 to 300 bpm, is used instead of the taps and marked as typed everywhere. #### 2. Segments - Times are whole milliseconds on the video's own clock. A boundary you set at the playhead snaps to the time of the frame on screen, never to a frame number, so phone video with an uneven frame rate lines up. - A segment is at least 1 second long and inside the video. Segments never overlap; one may end exactly where the next starts. Up to 40. - A change that breaks a rule is refused with the reason. Nothing is moved to make room. #### 3. Fitting the music - A walk, trot or canter segment matches its gait's tempo. Halt and transition segments, and any segment set to as recorded, play at the track's own speed. - The track's tempo is tapped (tap its beat while it plays) or typed. - The beat is matched 1 to 1, as half time (one song beat to two taps) or as double time. Closest beat picks whichever needs the smallest stretch. - Rate is the gait tempo over the track tempo times the relation. Above 1 the music plays faster. The pitch does not change. - 8 percent or less either way is fine. Over 8 and under 15 plays with a quality warning. 15 percent or more is refused, unless you override it with a reason, which the cue sheet prints. Over 40 percent is never rendered. - When you first give a segment a track, its track time is set to the first beat after any silence at the start of the track (with room before it for the crossfade when the segment follows another with music), and the builder says so. Change it to any moment you like. - The track time you choose lands on the segment's first step. The beat nudge moves it by up to 1 second, in steps of 10 or 50 ms, so a downbeat lands on the first step; or snap it to the nearest beat you tapped. #### 4. Crossfades, gain and normalise - The music file starts at the first segment with music (its 0:00) and ends at the end of the last. - Where two music segments touch, they crossfade with equal power curves, centred on the boundary, over the length you choose: 1 to 4 seconds in half seconds. - A crossfade is never longer than the shorter of its two segments; the builder shortens it and says so. - Any other edge fades over 20 ms inside the segment, so a cut never clicks. When a beat sits in those first 20 ms, the fade in is 1 ms, so a downbeat on the first step keeps its attack. - Before the track starts, or after it ends, is silence, and the builder says where. - Each section's gain is applied, from minus 24 to plus 12 dB. Then, with normalise on, the whole mix is scaled up or down so its highest peak sits at minus 1 dBFS. With it off, anything over full scale clips, and the builder warns you. #### 5. The time check - Every level times the ride from the first step after the opening halt to the final halt. On your timeline: from the end of the first segment when it is a halt, to the start of the last segment when it is a halt. - The ridden time is compared with the level's maximum, and its minimum where it has one. Over or under is shown in words with the exact difference, to the tenth of a second, rounded up. - The limits come from the [levels reference](https://kurtempo.com/levels/), each with its source and the date checked. Confirm against the current rulebook. #### 6. Rendering and export - Each section's part of its track is decoded, stretched in a background worker by the Signalsmith Stretch library, shaped with its fades and gain, and summed by the browser's offline audio renderer at 48 kHz. - The export is one WAV file, 48 kHz, 16 bit, stereo. Samples are clamped to full scale and rounded. MP3 is not offered: no MP3 encoder with a licence this site can ship was found. - The cue sheet and floor plan PDFs are drawn in the browser. A character the PDF font lacks is printed as a question mark, and the builder names it. ### Worked example Twelve trot taps at 0:12.0, 0:12.4, 0:12.8, 0:13.2, 0:13.6, 0:14.0, 0:14.4, 0:14.8, 0:15.4, 0:15.6, 0:16.0, 0:16.4 make 11 gaps: 398, 403, 399, 403, 396, 403, 398, 550, 250, 400, 401 ms. The median gap is 400 ms, so the tempo is 60,000 / 400 = 150 bpm. The 550 ms and 250 ms gaps are more than 25 percent from the median: they are named as outliers and left out, and the 9 kept gaps have a spread of 0.6 percent, so the tempo reads as steady. A trot track tapped at 145 bpm fitted to that trot plays at 150 / 145 = 1.034, 3.4 percent faster: under 8 percent, so it fits with no warning. The ride opens with a halt to 0:09.0 and ends with a halt from 5:12.4. The ridden time is 5:12.4 minus 0:09.0 = 5:03.4. Over the limit by 3.4 seconds: 5:03.4 ridden, the First Level Freestyle allows 5:00 at most. The trot ends at 1:35.0 and a short transition, 1.5 seconds long, follows it with the same track. The chosen 2 second crossfade is shortened to 1.5 seconds, the length of the transition, and the builder says so. ### Formats by browser The browser does the decoding, so what it can read is what the builder can use. As a rule: | File | Chrome and Edge | Safari | Firefox | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | MP4 video (H.264) | Yes | Yes | Yes | | MOV from an iPhone (HEVC) | Only where the computer can decode HEVC | Yes | Usually no | | WebM video | Yes | Recent versions | Yes | | MP3, M4A (AAC), WAV | Yes | Yes | Yes | | FLAC | Yes | Recent versions | Yes | Videos up to 2 GB play straight from the file and are never decoded into memory, so a long MOV keeps the page responsive. Tracks are decoded only for the part a segment uses; a WAV is read a region at a time, and any other track longer than 10 minutes gets a note first, because the browser decodes it whole for a moment. On a device reporting under 4 GB of memory you see a warning. ### What it is not - Not a music library. Kurtempo supplies no music; use tracks you own or have rights to use. - Not a judge or a federation. The rules reference is checked and dated but is for reference only; your federation's current rulebook and test sheet decide. - Not a beat detector. The tempo comes from your taps, so it is your horse's tempo, not a guess. - Not an uploader. The video and the music never leave your device; there is no server. Kurtempo is not affiliated with the FEI, USDF, USEF, British Dressage or any federation, and does not supply music. --- # Freestyle time limits and compulsory movements, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/levels/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > Time limits and compulsory movements for USDF, FEI and British Dressage freestyles, each with its source and the date checked. Ride each gait for at least a minute in a steady rhythm. That is enough to tap a reliable tempo for walk, trot and canter. Last updated 19 October 2026. Written by the Kurtempo team. ### Where to put the camera Film from C, the judge's end, as high as your tripod goes. From C you see the horse on every line of the arena, the centre line straight on, and the diagonals at an angle that still shows each leg. It is also the view the judges have, so the video doubles as a check of how your figures look. Landscape, not portrait. Zoom so the whole arena fills the frame with a little room at the sides. If your camera follows the horse, keep the zoom wide: a close shot loses the feet each time the horse turns away. If you cannot be at C, the long side at E or B also works for tempo, as long as the horse stays in view; you lose the centre line view for checking figures. ### What the video must show - The front feet, clearly, on every stride. The tap convention is about front feet: every front foot in walk and trot, the leading leg once a stride in canter. - Enough light. In an indoor school, turn on every light; in a dark arena the camera blurs fast legs. - Steady footage. A tripod or a fence post, never a hand held phone if you can help it. - The sound, if you can: hoof beats on a firm surface are easy to tap to with your eyes closed. ### What to ride A tempo is only as good as the rhythm it comes from. Ride each gait as you will in the test, in its working or collected form, for a minute or more on large figures, with no transitions in the middle. In a freestyle the tempo stays the same through collected and extended work, so one tempo per gait is what you need. If you are also using the video to plan, ride your planned floor pattern in order. Each part of the ride then becomes a segment on the builder's timeline, named from your level's movement list, and the time check reads your real ride. ### Worked example A rider sets a phone on a tripod behind C at shoulder height, landscape, zoomed so the arena fills the frame. She rides a working trot for 90 seconds on a 20 m circle and the long sides, a minute of medium walk and free walk, and a minute of canter each way. The file is 1.4 GB at 1080p and 60 frames a second. In the builder she loads it, plays the trot, and taps the space bar each time a front foot lands: 24 taps over 10 seconds. The builder reads 152 bpm, steady, with one tap she rushed named as an outlier and left out. The canter, tapped once a stride as the leading leg lands, reads 98 bpm. ### Common mistakes - Filming from too close, so the horse leaves the frame on every corner. - Filming in portrait, which leaves the arena a sliver in the middle. - Tapping every footfall in walk (4 a stride) on one day and every front foot (2 a stride) on another: the tempos then differ by double. - Tapping through a transition. A rhythm that changes mid run reads as unsteady; tap a settled stretch. - Using a video from months ago. Tempo changes as a horse gets fitter and stronger; film close to the show. ### Formats and size MP4 in H.264 plays in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on most systems. A MOV from a recent iPhone is often HEVC, which Safari plays and other browsers may not; if the builder says it cannot play the file, export it from the phone as "most compatible" or open it in Safari. Files up to 2 GB are accepted and stay on your device. ### Frequently asked questions **Can I film on a phone?** Yes. A phone on a tripod at C, in landscape, at its normal video setting, is all the builder needs. Phones record at an uneven frame rate; the builder snaps by time, not by frame number, so that does not matter. **Does it need to be a whole test?** No. For tempo, a minute of each gait is plenty. A whole ride through your planned pattern is better for marking segments and checking the time, because the timeline is then your real freestyle. **How big a file can I use?** Up to 2 GB. The video plays from the file on your device and is never decoded into memory or uploaded, so a long file is fine on a laptop. Trim it or film at 1080p if it is bigger. ### Sources - [FEI Dressage Rules 2026, Article 419 (freestyle)](https://inside.fei.org/sites/default/files/FEI_Dressage_Rules_2026_Clean_Version_6.pdf), FEI. The tap rules are on [how the tempo and the stretch work](https://kurtempo.com/how-it-works/). --- # Choosing freestyle music tempo for each gait, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/guides/music-tempo-for-each-gait/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > How to tap walk, trot and canter, the tempo ranges music usually needs, half and double time, and how far a track can be stretched before it sounds wrong. ## Choosing music tempo for each gait Tap your horse's tempo for each gait first, then look for music within about 8 percent of it, or near half or double it. A stretch that small keeps the music sounding natural; past 15 percent it rarely does. Last updated 19 October 2026. Written by the Kurtempo team. ### Start from your horse, not the music Every horse has its own tempo in each gait, and in a freestyle the tempo should stay the same through the collected and extended versions of a gait. So measure it: play a video of your ride and tap each footfall the convention asks for. The median gap between taps is the tempo in beats per minute. | Gait | Tap | Usual range | | --- | --- | --- | | Walk | Tap each time a front foot lands: 2 taps a stride, left front, right front. | 90 to 135 bpm | | Trot | Tap each time a front foot lands: 2 taps a stride. | 120 to 175 bpm | | Canter | Tap once a stride, as the leading front foot lands. | 80 to 120 bpm | The ranges are a rough guide, not a rule; your horse's tapped tempo is the number that matters. ### Finding music near the tempo Tap the beat of a candidate track the same way, or type its tempo if you know it. Then compare. The builder works out the stretch: the gait tempo divided by the track tempo. A trot at 150 bpm and a track at 147 bpm is a stretch of 2 percent faster, which nobody will hear. Many tracks are near half or double the tempo you need. A ballad at 76 bpm fits a 152 bpm trot as half time, one beat of the song to two trot steps, with no stretch at all. The builder's closest beat setting tries 1 to 1, half time and double time and picks the one that needs the smallest stretch; you can also choose one yourself. ### How far can a track be stretched? The builder time stretches with the Signalsmith Stretch library, which changes the speed without changing the pitch. Small stretches are clean. As the stretch grows, sharp sounds such as drums and plucked strings start to smear and voices sound processed. So: - 8 percent or less either way: fine. - Over 8 and under 15 percent: allowed with a warning. Listen to it with the video before you choose it. - 15 percent or more: refused, unless you override with a reason, which prints on the cue sheet so your helper knows it was a choice. Orchestral and electronic music with a steady beat stretches best; a solo voice or a single acoustic guitar shows a stretch first. ### Worked example A horse taps at 108 bpm in walk, 152 in trot and 98 in canter. The rider has three tracks: a film theme at 110 bpm, a pop song at 76 bpm and a march at 120 bpm. - Walk with the theme: 108 / 110 = 0.982, 1.8 percent slower. Fine. - Trot with the pop song as half time: 152 / (76 x 2) = 1.000, no stretch. - Canter with the march: 98 / 120 = 0.817, 18.3 percent slower. Refused. As double time it would be 98 / 60 = 1.633, too far. She chooses another canter track at 100 bpm: 2 percent slower. ### Common mistakes - Choosing music you love first and forcing the tempo, which ends in a stretch that sounds wrong. - Tapping the canter three times a stride instead of once, which reads as about 300 bpm. - Matching a walk to a fast track by mistake as double time, so the music hurries the horse. - Forgetting that the walk tempo in a test is often slower than on a hack; tap the walk you ride in the arena. - Using music you do not have the right to use at a show. Some shows and streamed events need licensed music; check the rules. ### Frequently asked questions **Should the music match the walk exactly?** Match the rhythm you can hear and the judges can see. Walk music is often matched to the front feet, 2 beats a stride; some riders prefer a slower, half time feel. Either works if the beat lands with the feet. **Is a 10 percent stretch too much?** Often it is audible: drums smear and voices sound processed. The builder allows it with a warning and asks you to listen. At 15 percent or more it refuses unless you give a reason. **What if my horse's tempo changes between shows?** Tap a fresh video and fit the music again. A typed tempo can also be used for a small change, such as a horse that is a little quicker in a show arena. ### Sources - [Signalsmith Stretch, a polyphonic pitch and time stretch library](https://github.com/Signalsmith-Audio/signalsmith-stretch), Signalsmith Audio, MIT licence. Last updated 19 October 2026. Written by the Kurtempo team. ### Before you start - Your level's rules: the time limit and the compulsory movements. The [levels page](https://kurtempo.com/levels/) lists them with their sources; check your current test sheet too. - A video of you riding your planned pattern, filmed from C. See [filming a ride for tempo](https://kurtempo.com/guides/filming-a-ride-for-tempo/). - Three to six tracks you own, for walk, trot and canter, ideally near your horse's tempos. - A laptop or a tablet. A phone can tap tempos and play, but the full editor needs the room. ### The afternoon, step by step 1. **Load the video and choose the level.** The movements become a checklist and the time limit is shown. 2. **Tap each gait.** Play a steady stretch of walk, trot and canter and tap the space bar on each footfall. Aim for steady or fair on each. 3. **Mark the segments.** Start a segment where each gait begins and end it where it changes: the opening halt, each trot, walk and canter, transitions you want their own music for, the final halt. Name each from the movement list. 4. **Add the music and tap each track's beat.** Or type its tempo. 5. **Give each segment its track and in-point.** Play the track, pause where the phrase should start, and use where the track is playing. Nudge so a downbeat lands on the first step. 6. **Read the stretch.** Fine under 8 percent, a warning to 15, refused past it. Swap a track rather than force a stretch. 7. **Fit the music and watch.** Play with the fitted music and loop any segment that feels wrong. 8. **Check the time.** Over the limit is shown with the exact overrun. Shorten a segment or ride a figure smaller. 9. **Draw the floor plan and export.** Draw each segment's line or type its letters, then save the WAV, the cue sheet and the floor plan. ### Worked example A First Level rider with a 5:00 limit marks 9 segments from her video. The ridden time, from the end of the opening halt to the start of the final halt, comes to 5:12.4: 12.4 seconds over. She shortens a trot lengthening segment by 8 seconds and a walk by 5, which brings it to 4:59.4, inside the limit. The crossfade into a short 1.5 second transition is shortened from 2 seconds to 1.5, and the builder says so. ### Common mistakes - Leaving the time check to the end, then cutting music that took an hour to place. - One long segment per gait. Breaking a gait into its movements lets the music change with the choreography. - Crossfading into a very short segment. Give a transition its own short segment only when it needs its own music. - Forgetting the entry. Music usually starts before you enter at A; give the opening its own segment. - Not keeping a backup file. Your segments live in this browser; save a backup before you clear it or change computers. Some shows and streamed events require licensed music. Check your show's rules. ### Frequently asked questions **Do I need a finished floor plan first?** A rough one helps: the order of gaits and the compulsory movements. You can draw the exact lines in the builder once the segments are marked. **What should I take to the show?** The WAV file on a USB stick and on your phone, as the show asks, the cue sheet for whoever plays the music, and the floor plan for your own warm up. Check the show's rules for format and labelling. **Can I change one section later?** Yes. The segments, taps and settings stay saved in your browser. Load the same video and tracks, change the section, fit the music again and export a new file. ### Sources - [2027 freestyle tests](https://www.usdf.org/downloads/forms/index.asp?TypePass=2027Tests), USDF. The rules are on [how it works](https://kurtempo.com/how-it-works/). ### Frequently asked questions **Does the site supply music?** No. Kurtempo supplies no music and sells none. You load tracks you own or have the right to use, and they stay on your device. **Can I use any song at a show?** Some shows and streamed events require licensed music. Check your show's rules. Rules differ between federations, shows and online classes, so read your show's schedule. Kurtempo cannot tell you whether a track is licensed for your class. **Is my video or music uploaded?** Never. The video plays from the file on your device and the music is decoded and stretched in your browser. There is no server that could receive them. Your segments, taps and settings are saved in this browser; the files themselves are not saved at all. **Which file formats work?** Video: MP4, MOV and WebM up to 2 GB, as your browser plays them. MP4 in H.264 plays in most browsers; an iPhone MOV in HEVC plays in Safari and sometimes elsewhere. Music: MP3, M4A, WAV and FLAC where your browser decodes them. **How big can the files be?** Videos up to 2 GB and tracks up to 500 MB. The video is never decoded into memory, so a big file keeps the page responsive. A track longer than 10 minutes gets a note first, because the browser decodes it whole for a moment; a WAV is read a part at a time. **Does it work on a phone?** On a phone you can load the ride, tap each gait's tempo, tap your tracks' beats and play. The full editor, with each segment's music, the floor plan and the exports, is laid out for a tablet or a laptop. **How accurate is the tempo?** As accurate as your taps. The median gap between taps is used, so one rushed or late tap does not move it, and odd taps are named and left out of the stability figure. With a dozen steady taps the reading usually settles within a beat or two a minute; if it is marked unsteady, tap again. **Will stretching change the pitch?** No. The music is time stretched, so it plays faster or slower at the same pitch. Up to 8 percent sounds natural; past that you get a warning, and at 15 percent or more the stretch is refused unless you give a reason. **Which federations and levels are in the rules reference?** USDF Training to Fourth Level, FEI Intermediate I, Intermediate II (and Intermediate A/B until the end of 2026) and Grand Prix, and British Dressage Novice to Advanced Medium freestyles. Each has its time limit, compulsory movements, source and the date it was checked. **Can I rely on the time limits?** Use them to plan, then confirm against your federation's current rulebook and test sheet. They are reference only: they were checked on the date shown and rules change. **What does the export give me?** One WAV file of the whole freestyle, 48 kHz, 16 bit, stereo; a cue sheet PDF with every segment's time, movement, track, tempo, stretch and gain; and a floor plan PDF with your drawn lines on a 20 by 60 or 20 by 40 arena. **Why is there no MP3 export?** No MP3 encoder with a licence this site can ship was found, so the music exports as WAV only. If a show asks for MP3, a sound program on your computer can convert the WAV. **Is the site connected to a federation?** Kurtempo is not affiliated with the FEI, USDF, USEF, British Dressage or any federation, and does not supply music. Federation names are used only to describe their published rules. **What happens to my work if I clear my browser?** Your segments, taps and settings are kept in this browser only, so clearing site data removes them. Save a backup file to keep a copy; it holds everything except the video and music files, which you load again. **Can I share a freestyle with my trainer?** Yes. Share this makes a link that holds the segments, the gait tempos, the settings and the names and sizes of the video and tracks, never the files themselves. Your trainer needs the same video and the same tracks on their device to watch and hear it. The link opens as Shared with you, and nothing is saved there until they keep a copy. Untick Include names to leave out the freestyle's name, the file names, typed movement names and override reasons. **Can I keep it on my phone and use it offline?** Yes. On an iPhone or iPad, open the site in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android and on a computer, choose Install Kurtempo in the menu or at the foot of any page when your browser offers it. After one visit online, the builder, the magic step and the printables open without a connection; fitting the music and the PDFs work offline once each has been used once. --- # About the dressage freestyle builder, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/about/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > What Kurtempo is: a browser tool that fits a rider's own music to their horse's tempo for a dressage freestyle, what it is not, and how to get in touch. ## About Kurtempo We make one thing: a builder that takes a rider's own ride video and own music and turns them into a dressage freestyle, with each gait's music at the horse's tempo, timed against the level, and printed as a floor plan and a cue sheet. ### Why it exists A musical freestyle is the class many amateur riders most want to ride and least know how to prepare. A designer charges for the music, and doing it alone usually means a sound editor that knows nothing about horses, a metronome app, a stopwatch and a printed test sheet. The hard part is not the software; it is matching the music to the horse. Kurtempo starts from the horse. You tap the tempo on your own video, gait by gait, and every number the builder uses comes from those taps and the rules on [how it works](https://kurtempo.com/how-it-works/). The music is stretched to fit without changing its pitch, and a stretch too far to sound right is refused unless you choose it on purpose. ### What it is not - Not a music service. It supplies no music; you bring tracks you own or may use. - Not a federation or a judge. The levels reference is checked and dated, and is for planning only. - Not a cloud editor. Your video and music never leave your device, and there is no account. Kurtempo is not affiliated with the FEI, USDF, USEF, British Dressage or any federation, and does not supply music. ### What it is built with The time stretch is the Signalsmith Stretch library, used under the MIT licence; its licence ships with this site at [signalsmith-stretch licence](https://kurtempo.com/licences/signalsmith-stretch-LICENSE.txt). The PDFs are drawn with pdf-lib (MIT), and the headings are set in Cormorant Garamond and the PDFs in Fraunces, both under the SIL Open Font License, at [the font licences](https://kurtempo.com/fonts/OFL.txt). No code under the LGPL or GPL is used. Everything else is written by us and runs in your browser. ### On your phone On an iPhone or iPad: open the site in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. It then opens like an app, and works offline after your first visit. ### Contact Questions, corrections to the rules reference, or a level you would like added: socialreminderinfo@gmail.com. Tell us the federation, the level and a link to the current test sheet, and we will check it and note the date. --- # Premium for the freestyle builder, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/premium/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > Premium fits music across every segment with crossfades, checks the time, exports the WAV and PDFs and keeps 5 freestyles. Tapping stays free. ## Kurtempo Premium The tap tempo tool, the magic step and the levels reference are free: measure every gait and hear one song fitted to your trot in sync. Premium builds the whole freestyle, every segment, timed, exported and printed. ### What Premium adds - Music across every segment, with crossfades between them - The time check against your level's limit - The WAV export of the whole freestyle - The floor plan and cue sheet PDFs - Up to 5 saved freestyles in one browser Weekly, yearly and lifetime plans are available. #### Free forever - The magic step: one video, one song, the trot tapped, the song fitted and played in sync - The tap tempo tool for walk, trot and canter, with tempo and stability - The levels reference with time limits, movements and sources - One saved freestyle, with backup export and import ### Choose a plan Loading plans. Subscriptions renew automatically and can be cancelled anytime from the link in your receipt email. Access is tied to this browser; keep your receipt email for account recovery. No account is needed and your files never leave your device. **What does Premium add?** Music across every segment with crossfades between them, the time check against your level, the WAV export of the whole freestyle, the cue sheet and floor plan PDFs, and up to 5 saved freestyles. It does not change any tempo or stretch: the rules are the same for everyone. **What happens to my segments if Premium ends?** Everything is kept: every segment, tap, track setting and drawn line stays saved. Music plays on the first segment that has it, and the rest waits, unchanged, until Premium is on again. --- # Privacy: your ride and music stay on your device, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/privacy/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > How Kurtempo handles your files and work: your ride video and your music are played and fitted in your browser and are never uploaded or stored. ## Privacy: your ride and music stay on your device How Kurtempo handles your files and work: your ride video and your music are played and fitted in your browser and are never uploaded or stored. Last updated 19 October 2026 ### Your video and music The ride video you load plays straight from the file on your device. It is never decoded into memory, copied, stored or sent anywhere. The tracks you load are decoded by your browser for the parts your segments use, stretched in a background worker on your device, and let go when they are no longer needed. The music file and the PDFs the builder makes are saved where you choose. The files are not kept between visits. A saved freestyle remembers each file's name, size and length, so it can tell you which files to load again, and nothing else about them. ### What stays on your device Your segments, taps, tempos, track settings, drawn lines and choices are written to your browser's own local storage, under keys beginning with `freestylebuild` and nowhere else (one of them is a short test that storage works, removed straight away). There is no server side to this site: it is a set of static files. It belongs to one browser on one device: it does not follow you to another computer, it is not backed up by us, and nobody else can read it. Clearing site data for this site removes it permanently. Use Save a backup file to keep a copy; that file is saved wherever you choose and is yours to keep or delete. The magic step saves nothing at all. ### No accounts There is no sign up, no sign in, no email capture and no password. Every page, including the builder and the exports, works without identifying yourself in any way. ### What is collected No account, no advertising identifiers, and nothing you enter. Standard web server logs kept by the static host may record the request for a page, its time and a network address, in the ordinary way any web server records a request. ### Page counts If page visit counting is switched on for this site, visits are counted through Cloudflare. The count sets no cookie, cannot follow you to another site, and records that a page was opened, never what you typed. ### Purchases If paid plans are offered, a purchase is handled by RevenueCat and Stripe, who receive what a payment needs, such as your email address and card, and never your files or your work. An anonymous purchase id is stored in this browser so your access is recognised here. ### Typeface and libraries Headings are set in Cormorant Garamond by Christian Thalmann, and the PDFs in Fraunces by Undercase Type, both under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Both fonts are served from this site, so no font service sees your visit. The licences sit beside them at [/fonts/OFL.txt](https://kurtempo.com/fonts/OFL.txt). The time stretch library runs on your device and contacts nothing. ### Cookies Kurtempo sets no cookies of its own and carries no advertising or cross site tracking scripts. ### Changes If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the change will appear on this page. ### Contact Questions about privacy go to socialreminderinfo@gmail.com. Since nothing is stored on a server, most requests are answered by telling you which local storage keys to clear. --- # Terms of use for the freestyle builder, Kurtempo URL: https://kurtempo.com/terms/ Last reviewed: 2026-10-19 > The terms that apply when you use Kurtempo: music rights, what the rules reference can be relied on for, your data and what stays free. ## Terms of use The terms that apply when you use Kurtempo: music rights, what the rules reference can be relied on for, your data and what stays free. Last updated 19 October 2026 ### What this is Kurtempo is a planning tool for a dressage freestyle. It measures tempo from your taps, stretches the music you load to that tempo, checks the ridden time against a reference copy of your level's rules and prints a cue sheet and a floor plan. ### Music rights Kurtempo supplies no music. You are responsible for having the right to use, edit and play every track you load. The music file the builder makes is a copy of your tracks, edited for you; it does not change who owns them. Some shows and streamed events require licensed music. Check your show's rules. ### The rules reference Time limits and compulsory movements are copied from the federations' published documents, with the source and the date each was checked. They are for planning only. Your federation's current rulebook and test sheet, and the judges on the day, decide. Federation names are used descriptively. Kurtempo is not affiliated with the FEI, USDF, USEF, British Dressage or any federation, and does not supply music. ### What is free The magic step, the tap tempo tool with its results, the levels reference and one saved freestyle with backup export and import are free to use with no account and stay that way. When billing is enabled, a paid tier adds the assembly across every segment, crossfades, the time check, the WAV export and the PDFs. Nothing free is moved behind a gate to make room for it. ### Your data Anything the site remembers is stored by your own browser on your own device. You can clear it at any time, we cannot recover it, and it does not follow you to another device. The video and music files are never stored or sent anywhere. Save a backup file if your segments and taps matter to you. ### Refunds Not happy with a purchase? Email [socialreminderinfo@gmail.com](mailto:socialreminderinfo@gmail.com) within 14 days of a first purchase, or within 7 days of a renewal, and we will refund it. Send the message from the email address you used at checkout, and include: - the email address used at checkout (if you are writing from a different address) - your access code, shown on the [Premium](https://kurtempo.com/premium/) page while you have Premium on the browser you purchased from - roughly when you purchased, and which plan (weekly, yearly or lifetime) - the last 4 digits of the card, if you have the receipt handy That is everything needed to find the purchase and process the refund. This policy does not limit any statutory rights you may have. ### Acceptable use Use the site to prepare freestyles for yourself, your own horses and the riders you help. Do not scrape it at a rate that degrades it for other people. ### Warranty and liability The site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Kurtempo is not liable for any loss arising from its use, from a score or penalty at a show, or from reliance on the rules reference. Check the rules for your class before you ride. ### Contact Questions, and reports of a result that breaks a rule stated on the how it works page or a rule that has changed, go tosocialreminderinfo@gmail.com. A result that breaks a stated rule is a defect and gets fixed.
